Josh Swicord Education Endowment Fund

The Josh Swicord Education Endowment Fund was established by the family and friends of Josh Swicord, a Berkeley High School student who possessed outstanding character and integrity, who enjoyed living and working in his community and who was loved by all who knew him.

The Endowment began providing scholarship funds in 2006 for deserving Berkeley High School students with an emphasis on financial need.

Coach Gerald Moody Scholarship established

To honor the memory and accomplishments of Coach Gerald Moody, his wife Julia and two daughters - Cam Patterson and Nancy McKee - have established the Gerald Moody Scholarship Fund to be administered by the BCFE.

"We are delighted that Coach Moody's family has made this decision. BCFE is hoping that this will provide the impetus for others to establish scholarship and endowment funds," commented Chairman John West.

Moody (Wofford '52) coached varsity football at Berkeley High School 1952-1967, then returned from a stint in North Carolina to again lead the Stags 1977-1989. His teams' records include a number of state titles.

Daughter Nancy McKee originated the idea within her family. "We all think that the best way to honor Daddy is to have an on-going incentive for athletes at Berkeley. And we know that he would want the recipients to be well-rounded BHS students, both boys and girls - not necessarily the ones with the best stats or the Friday-night headliners." The football field is named in Coach Moody's memory; fans pass a commemorative marker as they enter the stadium at each home game.

BCFE will establish criteria for the award, in collaboration with the Moody family. All candidates will have to be nominated by their respective coach. The annual award will be for $500 and will be made to one male and one female athlete each Spring.

"Daddy's love for Berkeley is legendary around Moncks Corner ", chuckled daughter Cam, "Both my son Chris and I are alumni classes of '66 and '89."
