The Berkeley County Foundation for Education was established in August 2000 as a non-profit organization under the S.C. Non-profit Act of 1994. Charter Board members represent civic, school, business and community leaders.
Formed specifically to provide an enriched educational experience for all students in Berkeley County, the Foundation:
- Receives contributions from individuals and corporations
- Promotes the improvement of education at all levels
- Fosters a positive community perception of education in Berkeley County
- Awards grants to teachers, schools and students for quality educational programs
Our Mission
The mission of the Berkeley County Foundation for Education - in partnership with individuals, businesses and the school district - is to provide financial resources for the pursuit of educational excellence and innovation.
Our Goals
The Foundation may award funds for:
- Mini-grants
- Scholarships
- New Programs
- Special Projects
Specialized grant review teams will make initial recommendations to the board of directors. The board will make the final selection of funding recipients.
How You Can Help
Consider the variety of methods in which you as a citizen or corporation may make a difference:
- Volunteer time or services
- Donate equipment or supplies
- Contribute financial gifts
- Fund a scholarship
- Designate memorial contributions
- Establish a school partnership
Donors may specify areas of interest.
All contributors or gifts-in-kind to the Foundation will directly enhance the educational experience of Berkeley County students. The Foundation's mission is to provide funding in addition to the general operating budget and federal funds. The community's generosity will not replace current public funds. Rather, these monies will provide the 'extras' not otherwise available.
The Berkeley County Foundation for Education is a fiscally independent organization recognized by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service under Section 501(C)(3). Your contributions are fully tax deductible.
How Are Donations Used?
100% of all donations and proceeds are returned directly to the Foundation endowments and programs. Your donation helps to fund Berkeley County Foundation for Education projects, which include scholarships, teacher and student recognition, extended educational opportunities, educational grants for needy students, and teacher grants for special classroom projects.
